Kaiju-Proximity Construction Permit
A proximity construction permit is required before building, extending or structurally altering any structure within 1,000 metres of a designated kaiju corridor centreline. This includes temporary structures standing longer than 30 days.
Reinforcement standards
Structures are assessed against the K-series reinforcement standards. The applicable minimum standard is determined by the evacuation zone of the build site:
- Zones 1-3 (outer band): standard K-1.
- Construction in Zone 4 requires reinforcement standard K-2.
- Zone 5 (corridor-adjacent): standard K-3. Residential new builds are not permitted in Zone 5.
The reinforcement standard declared on the application must meet or exceed the zone minimum. Applications declaring a lower standard are refused without assessment, and the fee is not refunded.
Fees and deadlines
The permit application fee is ¥45,000, payable on submission. It is not refundable if the application is refused.
Apply at least 10 business days before works begin. Breaking ground before determination is treated as building without a permit.
